Darwin's Finks under threat...
Christoph Pfisterer, the developer who created Fink, said about the name of the project:
"Well, actually Fink is the German name for Finch, a kind of bird. I was looking for a name for the project, and the name of the OS, Darwin, led me to think about Charles Darwin, the Galapagos Islands and evolution. I remembered a piece about the so-called Darwin Finches and their beaks from school, and well, that's it..." I read today in a post at the Fink-users list, that the birds in question are facing a grave threat to their existance: "Some of the world's most iconic birds are facing a new and grave threat to their existence. Many of the so-called Darwin finch species on the Galapagos Islands are being attacked by the larvae of parasitic flies and scientists are deeply concerned for the birds' long-term welfare."
