Mozilla and QuickTime
I just switched from Explorer to Mozilla 0.9.8 and I must say I really like it. But I have a problem: the QuickTime plug-in doesn't work with it. When I get to a page with QuickTime content the plug-in seems to launch correctly, but then I get this message: "QuickTime is missing software needed to perform this operation. Unfortunately, the software is not available on the QuickTime server". I have QuickTime Pro 5.0.5, everything in the settings looks alright and I don't have this problem with Explorer. Mozilla bug or what?

Seems to work OK from me in 0.9.8 on Apple's QuickTime site. Looking in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins, I have version 5.0.2 of the QuickTime plug-in...

what media types?
are you getting that message for all media types? You could try clicking on a link to a mp3 and see if that works. If it does then you are having a problem with just certain media types. If it doesn't well, then... you have a problem I do not understand. I get that message with certain Windows media types... .wma, .avi type files.

Actually the problem is with any plug-in. Shockwave is not working either. I don't know what's the cause, but I know Explorer works. Mozilla is faster and maybe more stable, but for now it's unusable as a default browser. At least for me.

Can you provide a URL of a page with the non-working content, so that we could see if we could duplicate the problem? This would help us figure out if it's your setup or Mozilla in general.
Without this info, it's kind of hard to troubleshoot what the problem is... -rob. |

As far as I know, the problem appears on any page with any content requiring the use of any plug-in. Apple.com and Disney.com, for instance. They work fine with Explorer, but are unusable with Mozilla.

Then that's definitely something specific to your Mozilla install. I can load both Apple and Disney without any problems on two different Macs running Mozilla. Try removing Mozilla along with the Mozilla folder (in ~/Library) and the reinstalling and see what happens.

Now it works! I followed your advice and reinstalled Mozilla. The first time nothing changed. Before trying again, I copied all the plug-ins from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins to ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Apparently, this did the trick. When I reinstalled Mozilla a second time, everything was fine. Well, not quite everything, there are some bugs, but at least the plug-ins work. Thank you.

That's odd; I have nothing in my local Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and yet everything works. I wonder if you have a permissions issue on your /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder? My permissions on it are:
Code:
drwxrwxr-x 8 root admin 228 Dec 3 10:22 Internet Plug-Ins -rob. |

There's a small paragraph on Resexcellence.com about this exact bug. Apparently, it's due to having your disk cache set to 0. That's probably why re-installing helped.
Hope this helps, skel |

It must be it, since my disk cache is actually set to 0.
