Is there someplace that describes how to get rid of fink?
I'm wary of just deleting the /sw directory. I don't want to break anything else.

You should follow this guide if you haven't already installed, but I have got fink up and running (have installed xfree86-rootless and such with it) by just downloading the last binary, installing it, and doing fink selfupdate, using the cvs option. I don't know why this worked, but just thought I'd point that out.

xchanyazy,
Yes, that's why this thread is called 'Installing Fink from scratch' in 10.2. If you have Fink already installed, like you and me, and want to upgrade Fink to 10.2, follow the other thread I posted here: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showth...&threadid=5406 Cheers... |

Sorry sao, meant to be more specific -
Just got a new iBook (for classes, yeah, that's the ticket), and I wiped the drive and installed jaguar (came installed with 9.2.2 and 10.1.4, but the jaguar disks were in the box). After that, I then installed fink 0.4.0.a from the .pkg file from sourceforge. Then I updated using fink selfupdate with the cvs deal. When I put Jag on my desktop (had moved /sw to an off-world partition), fink just kept working with no tinkering necessary, except for reinstalling xfree86 (had forgot about the /usr/ files) Sorry for the confusion. Regardless, I would still suggest following the real instructions for updating and new installations, as my systems have always been a bit freakish, even when they're brand new. I must have an odd electrical field around my body, or something.

xchanyazy,
Yes, some packages will work, and some will not. Anyhow, slowly you will have to update to the 10.2 ready packages. As you said, for most people, I would recommend to follow the instructions at the Fink side. Cheers... |
