When I connect to a Windows server via GO > Connect ect... after about 15 min. of inactivity, I get kicked off of the network. Any way to change this? I am using OS X . Thanks |

I've had exactly the same problem. One minute I am connected to the Windows network, the next it drops out. I restart and am connected again for about 15mins.
I'm connecting using wireless, I thought it might be a signal problem but I am getting 2-3 bars. Any help out there would be greatly appreciated. |

Are these connections using AFP or SMB to talk to the Windows Server?
Also, what variety of Windows Server are you connecting to? It is possible for the server admin to specify idle timeout disconnections and the default value is 15 minutes, on NT, 2K and 2003 Servers. |

Thanks for this. It seems that so long as I've logged in within 15 minutes it works fine so must be a server timeout issue. Sorry, new to this and don't know details of server.
Annoying thing is that I then get the common 'missing files' problem - solved it by deleting hidden cache files - but that's another thread. I thought networking with Windows and Panther was easy - clearly some bugs to be ironed out! Thanks again. |

We're also having the same problem here for AFP shares on a MacOS 9.x server. It used to be that if we didn't disconnect overnight, the connection would drop as soon as we did anything in the morning. However the problem now occurs apx every 10 minutes .. and it's not just an idle timeout - it can be while the connection is being used! I'm wondering if I should put OS-X on the file server .. however it's an old Beige G3 @ 233mHz. I'm scared it will be too slow. Is file-sharing between OS-X machines more stable? (Note: The server isn't an official appleshare server. Just a machine with half a dozen shared directories) Thanks for any help. Cheers! Rick |

Is it possible that what you are seeing is related to the maximum of 10 simultaneous connections that is (as I've heard) supported by non-server versions of the OS? |

Unfortunately not, there's only three OS-X machines accessing it .. noone else. And that's after a restart so there's no zombies. Thanks for the thought though. Cheers Rick |

I've had the same problem for ages now, I haven't bothered fixing it because I use a workaround, just create an alias of the file server on your desktop, so everytime it disconnects, just double click on the alias and it relocates the fileserver without having to go through the process of logging on every 15 minutes...

For AFP Issues, have you tried installing Apple's AFP Update?
AFP Update Don't know if this was fixed by Panther, but it helped some for my network of Jaguar machines accessing an OS 9 Server |
