Everything works except Rendezvous stuff...
This is a relatively minor problem, but perplexing nonetheless.
I have a 3-Mac network at home, all running Panther. They are connected to a Linksys HPRO200 Home Phoneline router (HPNA) set for DHCP. All network functions run great - web browsing, e-mail, file sharing, etc. The only thing that has never worked are Rendezvous functions: iTunes music sharing, iChat messaging (Mac-to-Mac on the LAN - the AIM addresses work fine), and Printer Sharing. From a hint posted here, I got Printer Sharing to work finally. I made a duplicate of my network settings on the G4 (the one connected to the printer) and gave it a static IP address outside the range of the numbers my DHCP router was handing out. For reasons I don't really understand, it works fine now. And from the posts I read here, I am pretty sure my software is set up correctly (no 2 machines named the same, etc.) After running a recommended utility called "Rendezvous Browser," however, I noticed a Rendezvous service called "OS X Duplicate Suppression" running. This may or may not be part of the problem, but I am starting to suspect a router issue. I have posted a page of screen shots of my router setup, along with some other shots of my Sharing prefs panel and the Rendezvous Browser windows. I can post more if needed. http://homepage.mac.com/broderson/PhotoAlbum8.html Like I said, not a huge problem - it's just bugging me why this Rendezvous stuff isn't working - I thought it was supposed to be a no-brainer. Thanks for any help in advance! Last edited by studio246; 01-05-2004 at 07:19 PM. |

Possibly the router isn't allowing Rendezvous traffic to pass? Is it blocking any internal ports? I believe that Rendezvous broadcasts on UDP 5353 as a multi-cast DNS request.
