Create an 'Another Launcher X Hints Forum' Search?
Is it possible to add a URL to my Another Launcher seacrh prefs so that I can search the forums here from its search box?
For example, I can search the main site using - Code:
Address: http://www.macosxhints.com/search.php?query= Code:
Query: &datestart=&dateend=&topic=0&type=stories&author=&mode=search It would be soooooo nice!!!!!

Sorted.
it was a bit of a lazy post of mine - and i have had a little dig in the html for the search engine and come up with this, it seems to work
so here goes for those that want to try it...Code:
Address: http://forums.macosxhints.com/search.php?query= Code:
Query: &forumchoice=1&titleonly=&showposts=&searchdate=-1&beforeafter=&sortby=la stpost&sortorder=descending&action=simplesearch sounds like a plan to me judging by how much i use this place! anyway, just thought id share....will post a hint now. happy searching! /edit: fold -mt

Sogudi for searching
If you are using Safari, check out Sogudi for a great search tool. Instead of typeing a URL in the address area of Safari, you type in a keyword and then the words you are searching for. You can set up keywords for many search engines.
http://www.atamadison.com/w/kitzkikz.php?page=Sogudi So I can type in vt gamma to search versiontracker for gamma. mu gamma searches macupdate. gmac does a google mac search, etc. |

Hey, thanks, but I really like Butler, and want to use its built-in search feature. It worked in Jaguar and (I think) 10.3, but in 10.3.2 it's broken. Great app though, definitely the best power user tool out there for the price.
I will check Sogudi out, however. I still switch between Camino and Safari. |

Not sure if you figured this out or not, but the forum search seems to work reasonably well in b10. According to the definitions in Butler, it's set like this:
Address: http://forums.macosxhints.com/search.php?query= Query: &forumchoice=1&titleonly=&showposts=&searchdate=-1 &beforeafter=&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending&action=simplesearch I added a line break to the Query line for a narrower display here; it's one long line in Butler. When I use this, it brings me to a filled-in search form. You have to click Search Now to start the search, but it does 99% of the work for you... -rob. |

Yer... This is very annoying. The new forums don't use variables passed in the URL so it seems like we cant use this feature so nicely anymore. Maybe Peter D of Butler could innovate some way we can emulate a call to a page that uses the GET method on the form. Jamie |
