File rename
Perhaps the only thing I still use Windows for is the feature of an app I have that will automatically allow me to rename files sequentially. When importing digital pictures the file names are not descriptive. I want to make them something like this:
DanBday03_01.jpg where its the name of my son, the event, the year and then the photo number so next would 02 and so on. I have searched high and low for this functionality and I cannot find it for the MAC so I just upgraded to Panther and thought I would post to see if anyone had any ideas or suggestions. Thanks. |

The shareware "Graphic Converter" (http://www.lemkesoft.de/en/index.htm) has a feature that allows you to do this sort of renaming.
Otherwise, have look at the various renaming programs available - e.g. "Better Finder Rename" is one that I have heard of but haven't tried. There are also various scripts that allow the sort of batch reanaming you want - check the main macosxhints site as there might have been an article there about this sort of thing. |

Folks I tried all of the suggestions and I have settled on Graphic Converter because only it does the batch rename that I am looking to get accomplished, yes the others offered renaming but not in a batch mode where the source file name was irrelevant. Thanks for the replies and suggestions!
