New keycombos for some A-Apps (Apple Apps) must take getting used to.. Exposé is pretty cool. So is user switching.

Panther is a must have if your hardware supports it. Jaguar had barely acceptable speed on my TiBook 550, but Panther is significantly faster. The new finder is much better, mounting disk images is better, printing is WAY better, Exposé is cool, ...

even on my 12" PowerBook, the performance is significantly better than with Jag.

So far, no problems... all smiles... this big cat purrs like a kitten.

Werx great on my G3/350. Boot time seem to be about the same but the beyond "snappier" Finder is so worth it.

Along with what's been said here already, I'm also very much loving that there is now a menu item for Classic status and start/stop!

Overall good, so far (one problem with Palm Desktop).

The new open/save dialogues are my favorite feature. Very useful!

No one metioned how fast the new apple X11 is? I need to use X11 to do remote logins to SUN computers in my college and the new X11 that came with Panther is really just what I needed. Just that some configurations are different from the previous version.

Here's another reason to upgrade to Panther: 3 security warnings against Jaguar

Terrible! The reports are that it causes them to call your mother names, attempt liasons with your cats, burst into flame, and raise the dead! The dead! But the car is OK?
Seriously though, reports are that it makes bubble iMacs fast. If that is the case I wouldn't worry about an FP iMac.

Overall - experience good... other than the fact my Apple GeForce 4MX does not work in my G4/400 (AGP). Also seeing a lot more spinning beachball than in Jagyar - especially in Safari.

On the whole, I'm pretty pleased. I thought I'd dislike the new Finder but it's been very easy to get used to.

The networking issues are the main things that need to be resolved for my use. Judging by the amount of feedback being generated about this, I expect that will be sooner rather than later.

A few nice but minor improvements in Panther (expose is cute), but "nothing to get excited about". But this hardly rocks my world, and nothing is really cool, I fear... . My 2001-ibook is perhaps slightly faster, but still miles behind my 2001-toshiba satelitte running Mandrake Linux (with less memory and similar processor speed...) The saddest thing
is that nothing cool will happen before Summer 2004 in terms of Mac OS X improvements .

Oh well, the money I shelled out for Panther can be viewed as a donation to keep OS competition alive. Too bad it is not tax deductible

Cheers,

Max
