dnwld mngr crashed, stuck with file, cant delete
hi all,
was downloading some mp3s from a site recently when ie crashed, incl download manager, and now it seems i cannot delete these partial mp3 files. error is such: Preparing to move to "trash" ... The item "whatever" is being used by another task right now. (Other task include moving, copying, or emtpying the trash.) Try again when the other task is complete. i've tried downloading over the files and replacing them, but it doesn't work. i've tried renaming them then deleting them, doesn't work. checked the ownership & permissions, looks like i should be able to do whatever i want with them. i'm guessing it has to do with the download manager crashing. how can i get rid of these files that are stuck on my desktop!? thx for any help. |

Have you tried deleting them from the Terminal:
sudo rm ~/Desktop/filename

Could you post exactly what it said?

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System

That's just a warning that appears the first time you use sudo. Sudo is a way of operating as the super-user; i.e. it gives you rights to do things that, as an ordinary user, you wouldn't have. Try the command without sudo (if you own the files you wont need it anyway), but if you do need to try it with sudo just input your admin password at the password prompt.
