Netscape 7 problem
I'm using Safari as my main browser but need Netscape to download bank statements (Natwest Bank UK) . I've just installed Netscape 7.02 but can't get a window to open. All I see is a very small matchstick respresentation of a tab that is too small to double click on - it disappears when I select 'Close Tabs'. I'm running OSX 10.2.6. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Phil

Netscape 7
You can temporarily reset the Monitor resolution to a much smaller numbner 800 x something. Then click on the Green button to maximize the browser window. Now return your resolution to the desired level. Your browser window should be large enough to work with. If need be, stretch it with the lower-right corner.

Re: Netscape 7
Thanks, but I don't think it is a resolution problem. I've tried this and it makes no difference. Perhaps it would help if i give a little more info: When I launch Netscape, instead of opening a blank Navigator window I get this tiny, and I mean very small (1cm by 0.1cm at 832x624) tab. As I said, it is too small to click on. All the other commands under the window menu (mail&newsgroups, instant messager, composer, address book) work normally producing standard OSX windows. The problem is only with the Navigator windows. If I use a bookmark when I'm online, it will show the page as a new window under the windows menu, but will only generate one of the tiny tabs with no way to expand it. Could it be that I need to delete a preference file or something? I'm not yet that sure of myself when digging around in the depths of OSX. |

Netscape 7
Perhaps your only recourse is to d/l a fresh copy and reinstall. It appears as though you have a corrupt "something". In the past, I have had this happen 2 times in a row, and it took a 3rd try to get it right. The problem was different, but the effect was the same.
Dolwnload a fresh NS 7. Do not install yet. Find and save your bookmarks, address book, and mail to the desktop. Find and move to Trash all "Netscape" and possibly Mozilla files. Empty Trash. Install the new NS 7. Launch it and establish your user accounts. Close it down. Find and replace the add. bk, bookmarks, and mail in the new version with those on your desktop. You should be go to go. I am now using Mozilla 1.4b instead. The only thing I miss is the Spellchecker.

this happened to me using Mozilla. I don't remember how it happened, exactly, but it had something to do with repeatedly clicking the 'zoom' button in the window bar (the green button, if you use the aqua scheme). All of the sudden the window was about 2 pixels wide, 10 tall, and I couldn't do anything with it.
I think the new size of the window gets saved as a pref somewhere, but I couldn't find out where (Mozilla/NS7 uses lots of JavaScript for prefs, but I couldn't find the relevant item). I solved the problem by deleting my user profile directory. Or, move your user profile directory, let it create a new one at your next launch, then slowly copy over files, like your bookmarks, prefs.js files, etc. If you're scientific about it (restarting the app after each copied file), you should be able to figure out what can be deleted the next time it happens. I don't think downloading a fresh copy of NS7 will help. It's a pref issue, not an app issue. |

There is a file you can delete... It happened to me once, and it was a simple fix. Let me look around...
edit: - found it With Netscape 7.0 _not_ running, delete the file localstore.rdf in your profile folder. The path will be something like: ~/Library/Mozilla/Profiles/<Profile Name>/<random>.slt/localstore.rdf or just search for localstore.rdf and delete it. Netscape 7 problem solved (well almost)
Deleting the localstore.rdf file fixed the problem - thank you all very much. (Sorry not to have got back sooner as I've been away a few days.)
The irony is that when I finally logged in to my bank from Netscape 7, I got an error message saying that only versions (I think) 4.2 to 4.78 were recognised so I had to go back to using Netscape 4.7 under Classic. I hope Safari eventually makes the grade to enable the banks to take it seriously as I really like the interface. Thanks again, Phil |
