Question Change the "bong"?

This isn't anything that absolutely NEEDS to be done, I'm just curious...
Is there anyway to change the traditional "BONG" sound that plays at startup (specifically on 10.2.6)?
I've been hearing that sound since my PowerMac 7200 (and I know it's even older than that) and I've got some new sounds that would be really cool to hear on startup.
Of course, if it requires hardcore programming knowledge, I'm out.
Suggestions?

well if you really mess something up you could get the chimes of death. :-)

I haven't heard that in a while. Its a great startup sound. tires squealing...crashing noise...and then breaking glass.... When you hear it you know you are in trouble.

I think the "bong" is burned into the ROM of the Mac or something...

I've been able to invoke the chimes of death on my G4 tower. These, along with the start-up chimes, are stored inside a ROM.

Regarding the chimes of death: ever since the PowerMac, you get the car crash or the dramatic dum dum dum.

My favorite of all time was the 040 sound.
