The Second Monitor Blues
I have a question... I just got an adc to vga extractor and plugged in a second monitor into my ati radeon video card. for some reason, even though i can get REALLY high resolution on my left monitor, the right monitor can only go up to 1158x870 at 75 Hz... what's up with that?

Jpolk-
This was discussed in a previous thread. check it out here: http://forums.macosxhints.com/showth...threadid=10702 hope that helps you out a bit. It isn't the exact same as your setup since it involves a matrox card, but it may give you some insight. Last edited by tlarkin; 04-25-2003 at 03:10 PM. |

Groovy!
Thanks tlarkin. It is an ADC to VGA converter, but the problem is essentially the same. I'm gonna try switching monitor connections... we'll have to see how that works. No BIG deal, but you know, it is a little galling when stuff doesn't work quite right. |

i ran into a driver issue with a matrox card today. I was trying to install OS 10.2 on a PM G4 (quicksilver) and everytime it would kernel panic right when the install would start. To make a long story short, when I pulled out the Matrox card, no more kernel panics. There was no driver/bios/rom update i could find on the internet for this card. it worked fine in 10.1.5, but when i tried to install os 10.2.4 it crapped out on me. I am begining to think OS X does not have very good video card driver support.

You are probably right... especially considering one of the comments in the other post that mentioned no problems in OS 9 but not working in X. I guess we just have to wait and see if Apple ever rectify the situation.

Serious Weirdness
Get this. Last night I turned on my dual monitor set up and both were at 640x480. Strangely enough, when I went into the monitor prefs, I could suddenly put both monitors at 1280x1024 (one ah 80Hz the other at 60Hz)! I was thrilled.
Unfortunately, when I restarted my computer some hours later (to check if my luck would hold) I encountered the same problem as before (one at 1280x1024 80Hz and the other at 1152x870 75Hz (max)). I don't have any idea what happened. Anyone have a clue? And is there a solution to my blues in your answer? Thanks guys! |

I think that really has to be a driver issue. That is the only thing I can think of really. You could Post this on the apple discussion board they may have a better answer than me. Below is a link to the Monitor discussion board.

Thanks a lot!
I'm actually going to try SwitchRes X tonight... was hoping to solve this without spending more money, but $15 isn't really that bad. |

Cool dude, glad it worked. You may want to hop on over to that other thread and post that switchres x works and how you did it, I think that might help their problem also. I have never used switchres x, but i will keep it in mind next time i come across that problem.
