Safari copy image to clipboad - copies upside down

Has anyone else noticed that if you copy an image to the clipboard from Safari 1.0b73 - the image is on the clipboard rotated 180° and gets pasted in that position. Very frustrating!

Hmmm - wonder what it could be.... I use PTH clipboard and have never had any trouble with it. Interesting thing is that the image is not even showing up in PTHClipboard... normally it shows up like any other entry. Its as if Safari is using a private clipboard.

I just tried it with PTHClipboard diabled and it is still doing the same thing...

Hmmm... a mystery....

PTHPasteboard in use here, too. and the safari image copy event does not appear in the pasteboard window, here, either.

This must be a 10.2.5 thing. I assume you are updated there too?

The ability to copy and paste graphics (and see them in PTH) is one of my favorite features of PTH clipboard.

I did a little test....

Opened jpg in preview... copy to clipboard... does not show in PTH

Opened same jpg in GraphicConverter... copy to clipboard... shows up fine in PTH.

Hmmm.... gonna fire off a msg to PTH author and see if he has a clue...

image size

I find I can successfully copy the small images used on these forum pages - e.g. the smiley face image on the page where I am composing this reply. But - as reported by the original poster - the images are shown as upside down in the PTH window.

I emailed the PTH Pasteboard author to alert him to this discussion and he suggested that maybe the problem of images not showing up was due to the image size exceeding the max specified in the PTH preferences (250K by default). I changed the max value to 2500K and now I can see the MacOSXHints image (from the top of the main macosxhints site) in PTH when I copy it from Safari, whereas with before I didn't see it. So it is something to do with the image size.

All of the images that I copy from Safari show up upside down in the PTH window. And they are still upside down when pasted in Graphic Converter.

OK - I emailed author and he graciously replied with same advice about adjusting the size field in prefs.

Still doesn't solve the rotated images though.

Hayne and merv - what versions of Safari are you running? Any addons? I am running 1.0b73 with PithHelmet. Not sure why PithHelmet would affect anything though. Going to disable just for the heck of it and see if it makes a difference.

PTH Pasteboard and my clipboard both show images right side up.
Screenshot
I did increase the "Don't keep items larger than" to 250000 bytes, and that made the graphics show up in PTH.
Must be a common denominator to your setups.
Anyone with the problem apeless, like me? (Just a guess, somewhere to start.)

edit: in case the first link doesn't work. second screenshot

Safari version

I am running Safari public beta 2 (v73) with no add-ons at all.
I am running PTH Pasteboard 3.1.1
OS 10.2.5 on an iBook 600,
no haxies, etc.

I see the upside down images every time when copy & pasting from Safari.
Note that you can see the contents of the clipboard in Finder via Edit/Show Clipboard and I see the images inverted there.

AKcrab, I would like to see your screenshot (since it really seems hard to believe that this doesn't affect us all the same way) but my packets seem to be getting stuck in Seattle (after going all the way across the continent). I guess this is the (recently renamed) .NOT network!

mirrored, not rotated

I point out that the upside down images are actually mirror-reflected images, not rotated images.

I recall that there is a flag in one of the Cocoa View classes that allows the programmer to specify that the coordinate system is "flipped". It looks like we are seeing the result of such a flag being set.

Yes - I am APEless (don't get me started!)

Has anyone tried copying from another browser? I deleted all my other browsers so all I have now is Safari....

Yes, but this isn't going to help you. I can copy pictures to PTH Pasteboard just fine with Camino.

But I can do likewise with Safari.

And in both cases nothing is upside down or reversed. Everything is normal.

I could always do this with Camino; at first I couldn't with Safari--until I raised the allowable byte size way up with PTHPasteboard's Prefs.

I'm using 10.2.5 with the recent Safari (Beta 2 (v73)) and the 3.1.1 PTH Pasteboard.

What I can't do is to open in Preview/QuickTime Player any jpegs I made from my scanner and copy them to the PTH Pasteboard--even though the jpegs are around 500 KBs and I have set PTHPasteboard for 1000 KBs.

But I think I remember not being able to do this before 10.2.5 and with an earlier version of PTHPasteboard. But I could be wrong here.

These jpegs copy to the Finder's clipboard all right.

Seems like the thread has been sleeping for a while. I have the same problem with Safari copying up-side-down into Mail.app. I'm using 10.2.6, Safari 1.0 (v85) and no special Clipboard-utilities.

Has anybody found a solution?

This is an issue with using thousands of colours. Here is the link on Apple's support page which talks about this. Apple's solution is to change display settings from thousands to millions. I've used it and it works.

It's a Safari bug - I just experienced it on my machine. I can't go to millions on this iMac, so I simply don't copy pictures from Safari. Instead I have to download them.

Strange Apple provides the workaround for us, but no solution.

Hopefully the soon-coming new Safari will fix this, a lot of people are experiencing this afresh - because of the new StickyBrain download .Mac members are starting to use.
