you can use the knowledge base off apples website under the support section. there will be info and links there to other sites. if you are familiar with samba at all you can use that to fileshare to your windows machines. there is a great utility called webmin that i ran on one of my linux boxes but i have no idea if webmin will work in os x. webmin is a cool way to manage your servers with a web interface, like apache, samba etc etc. hope that helps ya

If you will be connecting to the network (LAN) via direct connection to a computer, get yourself an Ethernet crossover cable. If you'll be plugging it into a network port on the wall or a hub, get a normal Ethernet cable.
I'm assuming here that you're using OS X 10.2? If so, on the Mac: Load System Preferences. Click "Network". Click the "Location" dropdown and choose "New Location..." Give it a name and click "OK". Choose the port by which you are connecting, i.e. "Built-in Ethernet". Choose the method by which your computer will get an IP address: "Using DHCP" if your LAN will give you an IP automatically; "Manually" if you want to give it a static IP of your own. Click "Apply Now". Make a note of your IP address. In System Preferences again, click "Accounts". Choose whichever user you will let log in from Windows and click "Edit User..." Make sure the "Allow user to log in from Windows" checkbox is checked. (You will need to enter your password and press the Tab or Enter key to enable it.) Click "OK". Again, in System Preferences: Click "Sharing". Put a checkmark in the "Windows File Sharing" checkbox and wait until it says it's started up. On the PC (easier if you're using Windows XP): Open an Explorer window and in the address bar, enter: \\ipaddress\username e.g. \\192.168.0.1\darkpaw Press Enter. Windows will churn around for a while then present you with a login dialog. Enter your username and password (the username and password you edited in the steps above) and click "OK". You should now be able to see any files you have shared on the Mac in your Windows Explorer window. To see the PC from the Mac: In Windows, you need to share some files and folders first. In the Finder, press Command (Apple key) and K. In the "Connect to server" window, you should see the PC listed. If not, enter: smb://computername_or_ip_address/shared_folder_name/ and press Enter or click "Connect". If you get a dialog called "SMB/CIFS Authentication", you need to enter the Windows workgroup, a valid Windows username and password, then click "OK". You should then be given a list of all items shared on the Windows box. Choose the one you want to see, and it'll mount on the Mac's desktop. --- This is all from memory, so if there's something missing or wrong, I apologise... ![]() HTH
