How to install an app in OS 9.2.2?
Hello
I 've just installed and started to use OS 9.2.2 on my Powerbook G4 Ti. After the installation of OS9, the only Internet Browser seems to be Internet Explorer. IE on OS9 works fine but most of the web pages appear more or less incorrect ; (that should come as no surprise considering the version of Internet Explorer released in 2002) ![]() It's reported that a browser called Classzilla works fine in OS9 and so I downloaded the latest version of it. IE downloaded it with the filename "Classzilla 9.3.2.sit" Problem is, there's no default app to open this file so I 'm unable to open yet install it. How to install that?

A .sit file is a Stuffit™ Archive. You can still get Stuffit Expander for OS X free, I believe. Other OS X uninstallers may also open it.
You may even be able to find Stuffit Expander for OS 9 somewhere. Last edited by benwiggy; 01-24-2013 at 11:27 AM. |

Stuffit Expander versions, including for OS 9:
https://support.smithmicro.com/app/a...it,-sitx-files By the way, just because Internet Explorer is installed with OS 9 does not mean it is the only browser that works with OS 9. Along with the Classzilla that you mentioned, you might also want to check out iCab. Trevor

I've found and installed a recent version of Stuffit for OS 9 and managed to open the downloaded Classilla with it.
Stuffit has expanded the sit file and created a folder on desktop. Inside it is the Classilla app (with about 43MB size) but when I double click on it, the Classilla doesn't open, a window containing these items opens instead: Byblos, Chrome I guess they are the building blocks of Classilla. How to run it properly? Thanks for the other browser suggestion, iCab. I will give it a try. But I 'd like to run the Classilla, too.

There should be more than just those two folders in that Classilla folder.
My copy shows 8 folders, and about 15 other files. One is the Classilla application. Double click that to launch your browser. Make an alias of that Classilla app, and put it somewhere convenient for your use. Or - You can also use OS 9's Launcher to make that that easy. |

hello you re correct
it must have been the leftover downloads I think I deleted the previously downloaded Classilla sit files all over and redownloaded it and after unstuffing it it showed those 8 folders and Classilla app, opened it it opened and it works fine. But though it works fine I feel I need to try the other OS9 compatible browser too, the iCab.

Long-time iCab user here... it's nagware (I did pay for it ages ago but on a different Mac in a different place). Great browser. Especially the feature to check the validity of web pages as you view them.
Also, Netscape Navigator/Communicator was usually included with OS9... just not given the same prominence as IE.
