Remap Delete Key

I'm looking for a way to delete with the mac keyboard "delete key" like the backspace key in Windows. I'd like to be able to hit delete and have whatever item is selected moved immediately to the trash. Any way to do this? Key remap program, Automator etc? Thanks,

Delete an item in the Finder?
Right-click the item, and choose move to trash.

Or, with keyboard only, Command-delete will move your selected item immediately to the trash.

If you really want to remap your keyboard, there's several different utilities that can help with that.

If neither of the applications DeltaMac noted do the trick, Spark—untouched for a few years and technically in beta, but still working just fine—would be worth a look. Setting up a Finder-only action such that pressing Delete simulates pressing Command-Delete might work.

The problem with any of these approaches is that the Finder probably won't distinguish between a file sitting there available for moving to the Trash and you pressing Delete while doing a Finder-based action like editing a file name.

From the keyboard, cmd-delete is the way to go. It's hard to do accidentally but still easy enough. There is no point in trying to make you Mac work like Windows.
