iCloud, Contacts, and a 3G phone

Hi all, first time caller here, and I have followed this procedure to get iCloud to work on my 3G phone running iOSX 4.11:

Everything works but the contacts section. As noted in the comments on the blog, when the phone tries to verify my server settings, I get an error about SSL and then it's over.

Does anyone have a better procedure for getting iCloud Contacts to work on a 3G phone? Thx!!!
