Unhappy Grandma's iBook is not booting

Hi all.

My Grandma loves her old iBook. She refuses to use anything else.

There's a problem in paradise, however. Now when she turns it on, she gets the folder icon that has the alternating os symbol and question mark.

She has the osX tiger disk, but when I try to boot from it, the cd tray pops out with nothing happening.

Is there some sort of keypress combination I can use during boot to bypass this problem? Is something fried? What does that icon mean?

Thank you in advance for your help. I really appreciate it and she is offering to bake cookies.
