Moving a Desktop Folder away from top right.

Is there a way to have a folder on the desktop sit elsewhere but alphabetized on the top right-hand corner of your main screen desktop in Lion? I'd like one (a Hazel-directed dropper) to sit on the top left of my secondary screen.

I think you simply need to click on the Desktop, select View > Show View Options, then set the Sort By pop-up menu to None. Once done, I believe how you arrange icons should be retained between restarts.

That's why I asked, NaOH -- I've already done as you suggest and in the latest Lion on an iMac, it doesn’t work. When I move the icon, it snaps right back. Perhaps I should trash some Finder prefs.

Found it -- you have to select "Snap to Grid" in the drop down (right-click) Desktop menu. Then stuff stays where you put it.
