10.6.8 Odd Finder Behavior

For the Second time now i have seen odd Finder (10.6.8) behavior that I have never seen on any Mac that I remember.

I will find the System running by itself If I go to launch ann App, say Safari the Finder will blink at you.

In both instances a restart restored normal behavior. The events happened about a month apart (2nd time was May 28 12).

The system is Mac Book Pro 7.1 with 8GB of Ram. It was a clean install of Snow and upgraded to 10.6.8 when it first came out. System has been very stable other wise. OEM Memory modules were swapped for two new 4GB ones around 5 months ago.

Odd

The menu bar flashing is usually a way for the system to "beep" at you when you have the sound off. Is the sound muted?

Also check System Preferences > Universal Access > Hearing to see if the option for Flash The Screen When An Alert Sound Occurs is enabled.

Sound was on

Sound was on. It is as if someone restarted the finder but then when you go to launch an app you kind of get a screen blink and thats it, the app does not launch.

In both instances I did not remember closing every app. And then I could not launch any. I usually reach for Safari and Mail first, and they are usually what was left running.

Simple restart fixed. Odd. System runs like a top other wise. System is kept up to data and I have no party hackies are anything.
