Launchpad: duplicate icons
I'm running Lion (10.7.4) and just installed an update for iPhoto (9.2 to 9.2.3). When I open Lauchpad, I find duplicate icons for for iPhoto. I've not had this happen with other updates, such as Safari. A restart did not solve the problem. If I delete one of the icons, will I uninstall iPhoto?
Thanks, Leonard |

The most probable reason is that you have two copies of iPhoto installed. An easy way to check is to use Spotlight to search for iPhoto. If there is more than one hit under Applications, then hold the command key while you click on one. That will open a Finder window to the folder containing the application. Do the same for the other. Delete the one that isn't version 9.2.3.

I checked, and there is apparently only one copy of iPhoto on my machine. I have not yet completely shut down the computer; I'll see if that changes anything, though a restart did not.

There are some terminal commands you can use to reset LaunchPad. Just search the web and they'll turn up. Search for "reset LaunchPad".

Thanks for the search tip. I found the simple solution of deleting the database file from ~/Library/Application Support/Dock. Upon restarting Launchpad, all applications were registered and only one iPhoto turned up. A new database was created. This would not be the best solution had I done a lot of customizing of Launchpad, but I've been using the default setup.
Thanks again, Leonard |
