Question OS 9 Boot Issues w/Sonnet Encore 1.6 Ghz

Hello All,

I am running a Sonnet Encore 1.6 Ghz upgrade on my Digital Audio G4 - card was installed under OS X 10.4.11. I want to be able to boot into OS 9.2.2 but can't. Boot screen gets almost to the end then freezes, with or without extensions running. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have (other than "Why don't you just dump OS 9")

How long have you had the 1.6 GHz upgrade processor installed?
Have you been able to boot into OS 9 since you installed the upgrade processor?
Can you start the Classic environment through your System Preferences/Classic pane?
Have you tried the tips from the Sonnet support articles, such as: http://www.sonnettech.com/support/kb...tion=b237#b237

I've had the upgrade a little over a year. Haven't needed to boot into OS 9 until now on that machine, so I don't think I had tried before.Classic works fine. I'm considering putting the old processor back in, running the install software (if I can find it), replacing the 1.6 and trying again. Just a pain.

Does your hard drive still have the OS9 drivers installed? Classic would work fine, but you can't boot into OS 9 without the OS 9 drivers installed. Check that in your Disk Utility by selecting your hard drive (not just the partition), then click the Information tab. It will show Yes or No for the OS 9 drivers....
You can also check in your System Profiler/ATA tab. Click on your hard drive in the list, and it will show a long list of items, one will be the Mac OS 9 drivers.

Yeah, all the drivers are there, but what I need this to do (video capture) doesn't work in Classic.

If you don't boot any further with extensions off, then, yes, swapping in the old processor would be a good next step.
Look for your OS 9 installer.

You need a latest OS9 firmware to be able to install Sonnet. I wonder if you have it done prior. If I remember right it had to be OS9.2.2 and firmware 1.4. Just a quess!

I just did the CPU-swap/software install option - works. Thanks for your help!
