Cannot reinstall OS X
OK --- somehow an attempt to install some Pro Tools plugins seems to have caused a bunch of bogus kext files to have been installed on /System or /Library and so I cannot reboot my machine.
I tried to use the Recovery system (booted the machine with CMD-S) and selected the recovery drive. After it authenticated me, it appeared to download a new copy of Lion but after it completed and went through a reboot, again my machine would not start up. On another machine, I burned a DVD with the InstallEDS.dmg file taken from the "Mac OS X Install ESD" dmg and tried to reboot with that. Although the first machine is able to see that DVD, it will still not complete a reboot. No idea what to do next....any suggestions, free or paid. Thanks David |
