MBPro: Battery Live versus Battery Usage
Most of the time I'm using my 2010 MBPro, I'm plugged into the wall juice; whether at home, library, or cafe.
Am I shortening its battery's lifespan by never using it..by never cycling it from fully charged to needs-a-charge? Basically, the way I use this machine, it's either sleeping on battery power, or being used on the wall voltage, and is in a perpetual state of near-full charge. thoughts? a |

If you are concerned enough to ask - What prevents you from using your MBPro on battery occasionally? (other than habit
)I will let mine go completely discharged (to the point of shut off) one, maybe two times a year. Some folks would say that's a bad way to treat the battery, and shortens the life. I don't do that full discharge often, so I accept the risk. I sometimes will do that when I "do" other batteries in the house, like at daylight savings time change. So - I like the idea of exercising the battery. Your battery is not subject to the phenomenon of battery memory, but you have a portable. I think it's a reasonable idea to use as a portable (on battery) every now and then. That can give you a clue that your battery doesn't hold a proper charge anymore, and time to consider replacement. Or, you can be confident to use your laptop, in the event that you are not close to power for an hour or two. |

no reason to at all, other than a "wantin' to be gassed up and ready for anything."
You never know then the President will call a meeting, requiring you to hop on a jet copter tout de suite and get your buns to the war room, computer in hand, no time to grab a comb, a snickers bar or that power brick. the balance of life as we know it may hang on your ability to move quick and function to the fullest, in service to humanity. In the movie version, I think Daniel Day Lewis would play me, and maybe the president would be Wanda Sykes. jes' kiddin'...yeah, I can easily run on battery power now and again, as I am now. thank you..good to know about the battery memory issue. a |

I consider that too often, but it's debatable, I suppose. |
