Cyclical Humming Noise From Drives
Hi there,
I am using a 2.66 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (running OS 10.6.8) in which I installed three drives (a Western Digital Black Caviar 1TB; a Samsung Spinpoint 1TB and a Seagate Barracuda 1TB). For some weeks now my mac has been making a slow cyclical humming noise (like the buzz of a refrigerator going up and down in volume). Cleaning out with compressed air helped a little but the problem is back. The noise stops when I eject the Samsung. I initially thought it was defective but then I noticed the noise now persists even when I eject the Samsung and only stops when I eject BOTH the Samsung and the Western Digital. Could both drives be malfunctioning? Or is it my mac? Any advice would be much appreciated! Many thanks in advance gspin |

When you cleaned out the computer with compressed air, did you get to the fans to clean them out, too?
