audio track plus slides to a movie in iMovie 2011

Is there an easy way in iMovie 11 (or something so I don't have to buy yet another program) that will easily let me lay slides down to an audio track? I've got a number of talks stacking up that I've recorded the audio for and have slides. I'd finally broke out iMovie 11 thinking it would be easy to lay down the audio track and just stretch the slides to match the transitions, but it seems totally confusing and different than prior iMovies.

Any good suggestions? I've got lots of content that I'd like to share on YouTube with the world.
