MBA wake from sleep issue.
Late 2010 MBA, 4GB RAM, fully updated Lion.
Close the lid and open it some time later. The pointer moves, but does not "do" anything. Clicking the on board trackpad doesn't do anything. Kb works, but "activating" anything in the screen does not. Restarting did not fix it. Eventually, a PRAM reset, as per Apple kb article, fixed it. Later, I closed the lid, woke up in the morning and had the same issue again although, in this case, a restart did fix it. Now, I currently have the MBA upstairs, away from it's external screen and usual BT kb and BT trackpad, but within range, in a mainly wooden house. Ideas anyone? TIA!

Try to reset the SMC which is not the same as PRAM.

Hi there!
Omitted to mention that I did that first, but no difference after a restart, so I did the PRAM, which appeared to fix it short term. Now back to square one though, so will do the SMC again shortly and report back. Knackered after two days at a friend's funeral, so will need a night's kip first. Thanks for this!

Now, I get the login screen, but nothing responds, although the point does move. Hate to ask but Online System Recovery now..?

eeek.....no local installer ?
Always download and burn Lion InstallESD.dmg to an 8GB flash drive as internet boot/recovery will drive you nuts unless you have a fat pipe to internet. Been there done that gone mad and gave up. Boot to recovery partition, fix any disk problems, and see how it goes. |

Ok, Cmd-R at startup and the MBA went straight online, after asking me for the network and password. After a few minutes, I get a panel of options:
Restore from TM backup Reinstall OSX Get help online Disk utility However, the pointer still moves, but nothing reacts to it, so I can't get to disk utility anyway. I suspect the Return button still works, but don't want to try it, as I don't know what is selected, as nothing is highlighted, except the Continue button. Tried tabbing around, Cmd-tab, escape key. Zilch. Anything else I can try? Cheers!

I didn't read your post properly, did I. :-(
Ok, I have looked into re-downloading that installer, so will do so in the morning and let you know what happens. Never having used this method, does it offer the option of installing and leaving my files intact? I have just realized that I left some photos on the MBA, without backg them up. All else is, but not these few pics. Yes, I know...

So, I used the power button to shut the MBA down and rebooted and it has booted normally???
System.log is full of errors, but too many to list here after the bollocking I got last time... But this line bothers me: 27/04/2012 22:47:21.318 Firewall: Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP 192.168.0.118:58935 from 110.164.252.222:53 EDIT: Forgot to mention that Little Snitch didn't say a thing. Thank you! That was not obvious, but I have the installer now.
So, just CCC the InstallerSED.dmg to a clean Mac OSX Journaled USB then? No other files required? Thanks!

Installer.ESD.dmg is what will do the full Lion setup. Copying it to another volume won't really be of use beyond providing a backup since the installer deletes itself when run. If you want to install on to another volume, I believe you should be able to launch the installer from where it is and select a destination.

You can use disk utility to restore the installesd.dmg inside the mac OS install.app to a 8gb USB flash drive.

Many thanks Gentlemen, I will have at that when I get home and have taken my pics off the MBA. A clean install would Appear to be the best option.

OK, all done and the MBA appears settled.
Just in case, I am slowly reinstalling the more recent apps to see if one of those upset the applecart. My chief suspect is Adobe Reader and that is plain not going back on. Once again, many thanks for your assistance!

Good news, i must admit i have had to do some re-installs of OS on a few MBA v1 lately.
Very rare i have to do a full system wipe but it was the only way to put it right. So not sure if related to SSD. I have Acrobat Reader installed on hundreds of machines and doubt that is what "screwed" things up but if you do not need it then do not install. We have to use it as Preview does not always render complex PDF (print) files correctly. |

This is a late 2010, 11" version.
Looking through, Adobe Reader was the last thing that went on before it started acting up, so, as you say if I don't need it... I have PDF Pen Pro, so should be OK. It was a work-related website that sprang the requirement for AR and I just went along with it at the time. Possibly an issue with the new SSD? Still within warranty, so here's hoping. 2 out of 3 Macs running... Roll on the new iMacs! need something new and reliable! Know anywhere I can get some 2006-7 MBP casing screws and a 10mm Torx (behind the RAM)?
