Mac mini server setup
I am trying to create a Web server on my Mac mini server. The link below has enabled me to create a server at localhost/~brian, but I got a 403 error at localhost. The author of the instructions says that Lion has an error which does not allow the server to start. He suggests to just keep trying. That seems lame. But I cannot correspond with him because the discussion has been closed.
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3083 A related question: on the mini server is in what path do I put the configure file named httpd.conf? Brian in Atlanta |

Leave the config files completely alone. Explore the Applications folder for Server Admin and use that to control your server. Activate the Web service and set up your sites in the appropriate sub-panel.
You may need to enable advanced configuration. If you have already fiddled with command-line config files it may be broken beyond repair - reinstalling the server is the easiest fix at this point. |

Thanks. The only change I have made is the one to line #111. Are you saying to change that one line back?

If all you did was add or remove a comment then it should be fine. But do everything else through Server Admin. There are very few reasons to manually modify the httpd config files.

Nevermind, I am only now downloading Admin Tools and will look into them.
Thanx, again. Likely I'll be back. Brian in Atlanta |

All the HTTP config is setup in Server.app not the "old" Server Admin tools(server admin & workgroup manager) which are still in use so worth installing.
Firstly make sure you are updated to 10.7.3. Open Server.app and turn on web services. I there are problems with all this starting then there is a reset command to bring all back to factory settings. Code:
sudo serveradmin command web:command=restoreFactorySettings Last edited by agentx; 04-30-2012 at 06:09 AM. |
