Gmail Help Please

I am having a strange problem. I cannot get the Gmail Log in page to load. I have tried using Safari, Firefox, and Chrome browsers and none of them will load the page. I get the message, "The connection has timed out. The server at accounts.google.com is taking too long to respond." The problem is the same on my laptop over my home wifi and on my desktop that is hardwired to CenturyLink DSL. I contacted Centurylink and they said they could not find any problem with the site. However, Gmail loads fine on my computer when I am not on my own connection. It seems like the problem must be with Centurylink, but I don't even know what to ask them. Any ideas?

I'll use Safari as an example. Make certain it is not running. Locate it in the Finder (in /Applications). Click on Safari once, then use the File menu to select Get Info. In the window that opens, look in the General section for Open In 32-Bit Mode (you may need to click the triangle to the left of General so it's pointing down and revealing more information). You want that unchecked. You can close the window and launch Safari to see if it's now loading Gmail.

More than likely DNS issue. Firstly i never advise connecting a computer directly to internet you should have/get a router which will sort your issues out and provide a security layer as well.

Thank you very much for the response....I do have the DSL line running through my router. If it is a DNS issue, what can I do to resolve it? Is there anything I can do on my own, or do I have to deal with Centurylink, the provider. Their tech support is not great for Mac users....

I would as a test manually enter some DNS address's into
System prefs > network > Ethernet or wifi > DNS tab
Try putting in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see if it helps.
These are google DNs servers but you could enter your ISP DNS address,s if you know what they are

opendns.org You add the setting to your computer or your router. They offer more then that if you want, but that is the best place to start. opendns is of the best dns.
