I'm not aware of any applications that allow you to enter notes by writing script, but there are styluses, instead of your own finger(s), that can be used with the iPad's capacitive screen.

Yes, you need a special stylus. I know thinkgeek sells one.

FWIW, I have tried a few and they are all crap.
If there is anything new around that works, I'd be pleased to know.

There are quite a few apps for taking notes on an iPad. These are the ones I have, though I haven't really used any of them since I got them for free and haven't had a need for what they offer. For a stylus, I use an AluPen. I can't speak to how well it works for writing, but it has served me well for PDF highlighting. |

Script input
I have been using Writepad from phatware.com without a stylus, although one is recommended. My only regret is that you can only write in Writepad and then copy/paste into the other app, like the browser. I need to get a stylus, I guess. Brian in Atlanta |

Stylii.
After quite a bit of mooching around stylus reviews, a stylus that rejoices in the slightly bizarre name "Cape Cod" came up, getting great reviews.
Not cheap at $34, but I have tried a few and they have all been garbage; possibly because of our weather here in SEA. Anyway, I was prepared to give one a go, until I saw their preposterous postage charges for shipping ex-CONUS. As you are in the USA, postage may be more reasonable.

I've never used a stylus before. I bought splash GLIDER Stylus for iPad 1, iPad 2, iPhone 4 4S, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung Galaxy S II 2, Motorola Xoom, HTC Thunderbolt, EVO 3D, Atrix, Inspire, Droid 2, Fits the Amazon Kindle Fire, All Touchscreen devices (BLACK) to use with the Fire. It works great! Keeps the screen clean & takes away the frustration I was having with my clumsy fingers and the keyboard.

I ended up with one of those fat things from Just Mobile?? Works well.
I also bought two Chinese knock-offs of the same model on eBay and they work just as well at a quarter of the price!

I also got a Chinese knock-off bamboo stylus for under $3, works well for basic ipad/iphone navigation.
