I am an IT technician and I look after 5 different schools and I use my mac and I get fed up of changing the proxy settings for each school I go to. I was wondering if there is software out there that can change the proxy setting based on the wireless you are connected to???

Surely you would use Network > Locations to switch settings on your Mac when at each location.

Yes, setting up Network locations will allow you to have a different proxy settings for each separate location. You can name each location for the respective school name. Then, you simply choose the location from the Apple menu/Location drop down when you enter each different school building. That's exactly how I work from one building to another.

You could create a script as well to detect what WIFI network you are on and have it switch the location settings but that seems a little OTT when a simple selection between locations would suffice.

There are apps like ControlPlane that are supposed to help with this. The last I test drove ControlPlane it was a little buggy. I don't know if the sharp corners have been smoothed out yet. You may want to take it for a test drive.
