Cant Delete files from my Time Machine

I am attempting to delete old backups on my time machine, and it will not allow me, any hints short of reformating it?

How and why are you attempting to delete TM backup files?

There is a mechanism within the TM app - right click on a file.

MY general advice for Time Machine and Spotlight is : you get the best results by leaving it alone. if you mess with it, it will go wrong.

Been there, done that and it did go wrong -- Time Machine looks after itself unless the drive used is substantially too small for the stuff you want to back up.
17" MBP, OS X; 27" iMac, both OS X 10.10.x (latest)
