Angry Booting from discs

I have a few ISO and DMG files of discs I've accumulated over the years. I'm not exactly sure where they are now so I can't just pull out the originals. I've read online about people having success booting from burned discs, yet I'm having no success of my own. Especially the discs to run Classic. On my slot loading iMac G3 I bought it used, wiped the HDD (Classic included) and now I can't get the iMac to boot to the OS 9.2 disc I made. Same with my iMac G4. I bought this one used, and the previous owner reinstalled OS X 10.4 without installing Classic. I'd use Sheepshaver but it's really CPU hungry on PowerPC Macs. How can I get my iMacs to boot into the discs? I know the drive is fine because I have done recent installations of other software.
