Serious external HDD problem while shutting down
Hi
I've been using external HDD with my Mac mini (Leopard, S.Leopard) for years, connected through USB and HDD usually being NTFS formatted. Several months ago, I upgraded the Mac mini to Lion 10.7.2 64bit and so I had to upgrade the MacFuse and NTFS-3G to MacFuse 2.1.15 32-bit and NTFS-3G 2010.1.16 32-bit For the last couple of weeks, if I leave the external NTFS HDD connected while shutting down, the Mac mini fails to shut down itself and this appears: ![]() It might be something like that: Code:
fuse_biglock_vnop_reclaim: biglock 0xffffff8014974120 released! fuse_biglock_vnop_fsync: Locking node 0xffffff801acc7450... fuse_biglock_vnop_fsync: node 0xffffff801acc7450 locked! fuse_biglock_vnop_fsync: Aquiring biglock 0xffffff8014974120... fuse_biglock_vnop_fsync: biglock 0xffffff8014974120 aquired! fuse_biglock_vnop_fsync: Releasing biglock 0xffffff8014974120... fuse_biglock_vnop_fsync: biglock 0xffffff8014974120 released! fuse_biglock_vnop_fsync: Unlocking node 0xffffff801acc7450...

There has been some movement in the MacFuse community lately as it was not being maintained.
http://osxfuse.github.com/ I would try using this version and make sure you turn on "compatibility layer" for MacFuse. There are "commercial" NTFS drivers which we use with more success however they are just leveraging the same code. |

Tuxera
Hi,
We dumped MacFuse and NTFS-3G years ago due to problems with 10.6. Our current tried and tested solution is Tuxera + OSXFUSE as mentioned by Agentx. OSXFUSE even works with the current version of Wuala on OSX 10.5 PPC, 6 and 7. http://www.tuxera.com/products/tuxera-ntfs-for-mac/ The only sight irritation is that Tuxera will grab a NTSF HDD and prevent Disk Utility from reformatting it into a Mac formatted disk. Easy to get around - the Tuxera control panel has a slider to disable it, which allows DU to work as expected. On the plus side, Tuxera will allow DU to reformat a Mac formatted HDD into a NTSF formatted HDD. Regards, Nick |

Also i confirm that is what we had to end up using too
ie. Tuxera or Paragon for our Ext3/NTFS needs |

Hello
and thank you very much for the comments. I've downloaded and installed OSXFUSE-2.3.9 with the compatibility layer and it seems to run NTFS HDD's quite fine now.
