2006 24"iMac, Mail.app rejecting password?
Only this machine has the issue.
Mail keeps telling me that iCloud has rejected my password. Several iOS devices and other Macs (sundry-assorted) unaffected. Any ideas, anyone? TIA!

Sounds like your Keychain is experiencing a hiccup. First thing I would try is quitting/relaunching Mail and, if that doesn't correct things, a restart.

Tried that. keychain First Aid too. Probably should have mentioned that in the o.p.
Just wondering if it is yet another symptom of the ageing HDD in the old girl?? OWC parts still not here. I really believe they are lost now, but OWC insist on waiting until the end of the month before launching an investigation. Great, doesn't get me by bits though. :-(

There's also a chance that it's a hiccup on the Apple side of things, even though that wouldn't seem logical since other devices are working properly for you. But I have seen it where an iOS device isn't having mail-checking issues but my Mac is. In such cases, the issue has resolved itself for me, usually within an hour or so.

I certainly hope so. The big screen machine is my desktop workhorse, even if it doesn't sync with iCloud - unless, of course, you know different..?

What happens when you access iCloud Mail through the web on that machine? I mean, no, that's not a long-term solution, but it may be of use while you wait to see if the issue clears on its own.

Keychain first aid does not always work.
You have to Quit Mail and manually delete the entires for your mail accounts from keychain access(IMAP, SMTP etc). Then re-eneter them in Apple Mail when prompted and save. I would check the setting from tech note below in Account settings if you migrated from MobileMe. You can use iCloud email/calendars on Snow but no contact sync due to the AB database change from Snow to Lion. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864 |

Many thanks, I'll go through and do all that.
In my iCloud settings, the smtp box is greyed and contains: p03-imap.mail.me.com Do i delete the account and set it up manually to change that?

Firstly you should always say what OS you are running ;-)
So if running Snow(10.6.8) then i would reconfigure account if you have migrated from MobileMe as per the tech note. As all you mail is stored on server you should be able to safely remove IMAP account and re-add and sync mail back or just make adjustments to account settings. If on Lion then you would have configured iCloud through the control panel. |

Well, yes, it's my old SL iMac. :-(
I found that if I set it up as iCloud, the smtp and Incoming server fields are preconfigured and NOT in accordance with that KB article. So, I set it up as any old IMAP and I was then allowed to complete those fields appropriately. Also, regardless of what I want, or do, the account gets the name iCloud 2. Where the 2 comes from I do not know. Things do appear to be syncing now, albeit desperately slowly and Mail tells me it is sending 8 messages, although only four are queued??

Well when it connects to iCloud system Apple Mail is clever enough to know it is a @me/@mac address and just calls it iCloud regardless ;-). I would remove the other account once you are happy and rename how you want.
One thing i do on first sync is just pull down headers not all attachments then sync it overnight. Just means you can get on with your life while initial sync is happening. |

Yes, OK, but why the number 2 appended? Also, why doesn't the "smart" setup system complete the server fields in the same way that the KBA advises? Just seems contradictory.
I didn't know you could set Mail for headers only, but, anyway, it's at it now and I have the MBA and iPad, so no biggy. Thank you once again Sir!

Because there was an account called iCloud already so it appended the '2"
There are soem oddities in transition from MM to iCloud. The system auto configures. However it does not match what the tech note is ;-) I have done tons of migrations and something changed along the way from a few months ago how it all worked ;-) your welcome and all the best. |

Weird that they don't update the KBA.
OK, Brighton, eh? Well watch the bypass on 12/7, about 13.00, for an M151 jeep and trailer, as I crawl by on my way to Paddock Wood. ;-)

The kb is fine it is very much for setup of any mail client with iCloud. There is some voodoo going on with Apple mail and MobileMe migrations. So that is why you may have been pushed some different server address's.
so back in th uk then ? And off to paddock wood for a rally or to buy/sell :-) |
