Finder issues, Undo replaced by ME13??
A colleague is having issues with her Mac running 10.6.8. Many finder menu items have had the text replaced with weird characters and numbers. For example, Undo now reads ME13, Empty Trash is now A3 and others are messed us. Also she has been complaining of Google search being hijacked in Safari because after searching for something then clicking the link she is taken to a completely different website, not always but sometimes.
I downloaded Intego Virus scanner but it found nothing despite many other forums claiming it is the Flashback Trojan causing the problem. The advice is to remove the following files which unfortunately don't exist on her drive: .MacOSX/environment.plist Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.SystemUI.plist Library/Preferences/perflib Library/Preferences/Preferences.dylib Library/Logs/swlog 'Relaunch Finder' didn't help either. Any advice appreciated. |

Check that the DNS server settings are correct.
Then reinstall the OS. Something has gone awry, whether it's malware or corruption. |
