AirLink 10/100/1000 PCI Card

Although AirLink does not supply Mac drivers for its products, this gigabit Ethernet card is a generic RealTek 8169 card, and SysKonnect's Mac drivers work well for it on 10.3.x and 10.4.x.

When on sale at Fry's Electronics, these cost $4.99 to $5.99 ($19.99, or more, list), and the matching gigabit Ethernet switches cost $24.99 to $26.99 ($39.99, or more, list).

As for Linux, et. al., the 8169-based gigabit card has been supported for some time.

Patchburn is no longer necessary for Macs running 10.4.3 or later. Apple has removed restrictions on 3rd party DVD Recorders

I am also having problems with my canon i950 printer driver and Tiger. The available drivers do not seem to match.

Which of the drivers offered in Tiger work with the Canon i950?

Anyone have any fixes for this. I don't want to have to buy a new printer just to accomodate Tiger.

thanks,
David

SONY External DVD burner Model DRX-830U and DVD Shrink

I bought a SONY DVD burner Model DRX-830U at Best Buy. It worked until I tried to use DVD Shrink. After that the SONY Laptop I use (a Windows machine) would recognize the drive but I wasn't able to do anything with the drive. If a CD or DVD was in the drive the computer would tell me that there was nothin gin the drive. The button on the drive wouldn't work to open the door to the drive and the there was no way I could open the drive except by putting a paper clip in the little hole just below the tray that come out to open the drive so I could get the disk back.

In an effort to get the drive to work I removed the DVD Shrink program from the laptop but the drive still doesn't work. Does anybody out there know anything about this problem?

Thanks,

Oopsaal

Like some comments above, some brands and models will, some won't. I would search around forums for advice on a specific make/model you might have lying around.

Have found that Brother printer drivers seem not to entirely work with apple. particularly time capsule setup that is supposed to allow one USB connected printer to be used by all computers using time capsule wifi. I found it worked intermittently, and then quit working altogether. Removed software and then reinstalled and still not working, so I went back to XP shared network I had previously setup. At least this way I can use printer settings and they stick ( i like to print with fast normal for ink saving). The other way, I got all sorts of printouts with major problems and simply grew weary of trying to fix them.

Why?

Why is this important-looking sticky thread here at the top of this forum?

What about Leopard?

What about Snow Leopard?

What about Lion?

How many of is are still struggling with Tiger hardware compatibility?

Time for a shoeshine (or a sandal wash)?

I have an Adaptec 39160 card driving an old-school Seagate 7-drive striped array that for my purposes works quite well (e.g., sequential readtimes of more than 60mb/s. It's the much cheaper PC version of the card I flashed (with an OS9-bootable sawtooth), so I think its a a very good deal as well. The lack of driver support may cripple it at some point, but then again it may not: Adaptec hasn't released a driver update in quite some time, but the card runs better I think now than when it was supported.
