Question how to get a Voodoo 3/2000 to work

I have two Voodoo 3/2000 cards for my Macs (G4/450, G3/266DT) They work fine in MacOS 9.1 with the Voodoo beta 12 drivers. When I boot into MacOS X.1.3 both card show a grey screen during boot time, but before the boot panel comes up to display boot progress and start of system services both machines hang. They seem to be looking for some missing software.
I've installed a patched Ndriver.kext for the cards including a b13 ROM file. But still no luck yet.

Has anyone of you gotten a Voodoo 3/2000 to work in X? If yes, what card firmware are you running? What drivers did you install, if any?
TIA
