"Other" in itunes summary
I have a 16gb ipad
itunes summary shows the following: photos .04 gb apps 6 gb books .04 gb other 2.8 gb What is other? |

I think the "other" category includes data that is stored by apps. E.g. calendar data, cache files etc from Safari, photos in your Camera roll, ...

Most of it is probably the OS itself, but I'm not certain about the above. I just tried experimenting with these ideas (removed mail accounts, cleared browser caches) and didn't see any change. |

I'm not sure, but you might need to restart your iOS device to see any change.

Honestly, at this point I'm not certain how it all works. I duplicated a load of e-mail messages into a new mail folder. This folder totaled just under 400 MB, enough to register when iPad drive space is measured. I couldn't get the iPad or iTunes to show any difference in available space or the Other listing, and I tried disconnecting the iPad from the computer, relaunching iTunes, and cycling the power on the iPad.
