Word 2008 formatting problem

Intel iMac running OS 10.5.8

My document looks like it is negative zoom. It is in Print Layout, set in 12 point Times. The margins are 1.25" left and right.

However, on screen at 100% zoom it looks reduced to less than 75% of the normal size and the print is all about 8 point (but the font box says 12 point). The text occupies the left 3/4 of the 8.5" wide page. That is, it does not fill the right side of the page to the selected margin. It prints like this as well.

What can I do to restore the page to the standard format?
