Blue question marks instead of images in Safari 4

Hi,

I've noticed I get a lot of these blue boxes with question marks instead of images a lot. Just got one, tried it in Firefox and it showed me the image just fine.

What's wrong with my Safari 4?

Thanks.

I *think* this is to do with a conflicting VLC codec in your Quicktime folder.

drag the VLC codec out of the Quicktime folder (Library-Quicktime), restart and try it again...

Empty the Cache?

One main difference between FF and Safari is that FF uses its own proxy settings.
You're not using a proxy, are you?

Can you give an example of a page where you get a lot of blue boxes? the reasons for this are potentially limitless (images turned off in Safari preferences, badly configured adblocker, corrupt Safari preference plist...)

I do use proxies here and there, but I turn them off when I finish.

Here's one.

There are two banners at the top, I only see the right one.

The banners are fine, but I do get one image that doesn't load on that site. The image in the "MusikMesse" box on the left hand side doesn't work.

Well I don't see the MusikMesse picture also, but also the left hand banner.

well, looking through the source and error consoles, all I can see is that Safari is reporting errors on ad-related images and javascript files. I suspect this means that one of the source sites on this page is relaying in some ad-spam, but the ad server isn't sending code that sits well with Safari. maybe they're using activeX components, or trying to load badly formed dom elements? it is odd, but it's hard to know with Safari whether you're looking at a Safari bug (which happen) or at a server bug (Safari is obsessively W3 compliant, and some designers play a bit fast and loose with standards).

I think the page has more than a few coding errors arising from a misuse of the alt attribute. The image referenced at that point in the HTML doesn't exist or is a null file. No surprise you're seeing a blue box question mark. Not finding the image, Firefox offers up the alt text link "Musikmesse 2009" (which seems to me a strange implementation of alt), but Safari stops at the absent image.

<a href="http://en.audiofanzine.com/trade_shows/index,idsalon,35,mao,musikmesse_2009.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.en.audiofanzine.com/img/c.../thumb3/35.png" alt="Musikmesse 2009" style="border : 0px;"/></a><br />

There's a similar problem with the coding in the left-side banner. The referenced image http://en.audiofanzine.com/misc-virt...ias/a.play.jpg doesn't exist. Firefox jumps to the alt text; Safari throws a blue box.
