Questions about AFP, CIFS and shared home folders in a mixed environment

Hi all,

I am working at a university in a mixed Mac and Windows environment. This University want to use the standard protocol CIFS and share home folders. I have a few questions about this:

(1) Is it possible to disable AFP and use only CIFS in a network environment?
(2) Is is possible to have home folders on the network using CIFS?
(3) Is there anyone how used shared home folders on a Mac OS X Server so that Mac and Win clients share the same home folder?
(4) Can anyone tell me the difference between CIFS and CIFS version 2?

I googled a lot but the information is very hard to find. Hope anyone can help me on this forum.

Thanks in advance.

Patrick
