Hi,
I was wondering if there was an option or a simple hack or application that would allow me to run Mac OS X whilst my MBP is closed? I have an external monitor and I do not want to dual it with the MBP monitor - so I turn mirroring on - and dim the screen. However, the dimming of the MBP monitor is really "dimming" not switching off. So I can still see a very faint, dimmed imagery on the MBP screen. Any suggestions? Thanks, David . |

Sure, the MacBook Pro is designed to work with the lid closed, with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. Plug everything in. Close the lid, and your Macbook Pro will go to sleep. Press any key on the external keyboard, and your Mac will wake up in clamshell mode.
Here's an Apple support article with some more info. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86286 |

+1 for Insomniax, I use it frequently as I need to move from room to room at my clinics, and do not want to carry my laptop open, or do the "sleep, unsleep" shuffle. Just remember to turn it off when you put it in your bag, I doubt the MBP runs well closed, inside a bag for too long.
