iTunes import problem - incomplete tracks

Hi folks.

So I've been trying to import a CD into my iTunes library. The first 12 or so (of about 24) tracks went fine using the AAC encoding at 256 kbps. When I get to the second half of the CD, however, iTunes prematurely finishes importing individual tracks, i.e. it will move on to the next track after importing, say, 40 seconds of a 2 minute song. No error message or anything. I tried importing the tracks one by one, and the same thing happens. Oddly, however, the tracks play fine in iTunes directly from the CD.

Anyone run into this before or have an idea what's going on? It is a burned CD, but it seems strange that it would import fine for half of the tracks, and play fine for all the tracks, yet not import past a certain point for some of the tracks.

Thanks, all.
