MacSweeper
Hi, I am using MacOSX and this MacSweeper suddenly appeared. What is it and who originated it? It automatically started scanning my computer but when I opted to "clean up unneeded items" I was told that I had to purchase the Sweeper before I could use it. I went to Utilities and ran Repair Permissions.

You probably downloaded it from some of OnlineScanners sites. I did so too, but this program saved me more then 4 Gb of disk space, and i was happy
Pretty nice software, but rather expensive, i hope some new features will appear soon, and it will cost that money. So waiting for updates

Find MacSweeper and throw it away. It's junkware, not worth the risk of using. If you can't live without an extra 4GB then get a new hard drive, don't use MacSweeper.

Why do you think so? Is it dangerous?

I tend to agree. I guess some people think that Dec. 25 is a good day to run a scam or pull a prank. |

If you downloaded it unknowingly and were surprised to find it running on your computer, you've defined spam!

I'm sure GerritW and Alladin are one in the same SPAMMER that created the thread just to promote MacSweeper. How else are you going to convince Mac user to buy a product they don't need?

That doesn't make any sense. The Discussions thread and this thread are basically "where the hell did this software come from, I don't remember installing it", which isn't exactly great PR. Alladin [sic] even says it's "rather expensive".
If these guys are spammers, they would have to be the worst spammers in history.

For what it's worth, the IP addresses from which GerritW and Alladin posted are in very different parts of the world. They also use the English language very differently from each other. I see no reason to believe that they are the same person. Trevor
