voicemail forwarding on standard mac modem socket? Asterix?

Is there a software only voicemail app that will answer calls, take a message and then email a sound file, mp3 to an email address. just by plugging the mac into a standard phone socket

All the ones I can find are hardware based.

will asterix do this without hardware (on standard mac modem socket)

regards

I don't think the mac's internal modem can record or even dycrypt voice calls. Thats why the answer software (can't remember it off the top of my head) means you have to buy an external modem to record the voice calls.

That could be wrong, but its what i seem to remember reading when I was researching into it a while ago.
