firefox and bookmarks problem?

Having a problem with firefox and bookmarking. All of a sudden I can't just bookmark a page without the "edit bookmark" window coming up. It wont let me bookmark the new page without manually typing it in. It saves the old page in the edit window??? This started happening when I updated to the latest version. I read up on the "star" saving button but that doesn't seem to be working either. Suppose to be able to click once on the star to save into unsorted bookmarks and click twice to bring up the edit bookmark dialog. Not sure what's up. Thanks in advance...This is not happening in safari.
