Spotlight importers disabled or broken on 10.4

I am using a searching program on my Mac which is running 10.4 called FoxTrot. Generally this program is great, much better that the Tiger version of Spotlight.

However, recently it has not returned up-to-date searches. On startup of the program, I get the message:

"The Spotlight importers are disabled or broken
On Mac OS 10.4 and later, FoxTrot relies on Spotlight's importers to index your files."

• I have done everything under the sun I can find on the web to correct the problem:
  
• Rebuilt the Spotlight index manually in Terminal using the code:

  sudo mdutil -E /

• Rebuilt the index using the method recommended on the Apple site where, in the Spotlight panel in the Mac System Preferences panel, you drag the drive you want indexed into the "prevent spotlight from indexing" panel, and then immediately deleting it. This is supposed to initialize a re-indexing.
  
• Cleared caches and preferences using MainMenu.

So far, these have not done the job. Does anyone have a clue what will work?
