some dvd's not recognized in new macbook pro

dvd doesn't recognize some discs-macbook pro 2.2. my other mac book pro recognizes all discs. it appears as blank unburned. no firmware update necessary. any ideas?

I actually had this problem as well. I inserted my copy of The Bourne Ultimatum and it didn't recognize that there was a disk even in the drive.

I restarted my computer and bam! There it was sitting on my desktop.

Maybe give that a try?

may have to do with not having a region assigned to the drive. Brand spanking new dvd drives come with no region assigned. if used or referb or otherwise not exactly new then a region may be assigned that is incompatible.

insert disk, open dvd player, go to file -> get disk info -> click on picture of map

check that you have a compatible region assigned.

also note the number of changes left... only allowed to change it 5 times. mine is set to region 1 and i have changes left.
