I just got an iBook G4 and I am trying connect to my xbox directly and get on live (i have wireless internet on my laptop). I turned on sharing from my airport to the built in ethernet. I have been reading around and I guess you have to input all the info into the xbox because I am using a mac. Here are my settings.
On iBook G4: IP address 192.168.2.10 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Router 192.168.2.1 *my airport and ethernet are both configured with the same settings On Xbox IP address 192.168.2.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.2.1 DNS 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2 In the xbox troubleshooter I always get cables connected, IP settings configured, but get DNS error. I'm new to mac so i am not quite sure how to work this out. I've seriously tried everything the last two days. I had the same setup with windows that worked just fine. If someone can either post a 'how to' or a link to one that would be great. PLEASE HELP IF U CAN, I cant stand not having live, and dont want to pay for a router. Thanks |

Try specifying DNS as the same IP as that of your default gateway/router. That should work, I think.

kmar1085,
I totally agree with aarony. Manually switch your DNS#1 to the same address (IP) as your router. 192.168.2.1 |

OK, tried switching my DNS address to the router/gateway address, still doesnt work. I went to terminal and made sure the DNS switched also. Still dns error.
I am still a little confused on how the built in ethernet works, do I have to make sure that it is green in system preferences before I connect. Because it is red unless I manually assign it the same IP as airport. I also heard on another forum that I may need to enter the MAC address, but I was confused on which mac address to enter, the airport or the ethernet? |

kmar1085,
I too tried to do the same setup with my XBox 360 and PowerBook G4. With no luck. I did have luck connecting my 360 to an Airport Express BaseStation via wire and have the Aiport Express connect to my wireless router. I tried many settings with the XBox plugged into my Ethernet port on my G4 and share internet via built-in airport and was NOT able to get it too work. Since you have wireless internet on your laptop. What is it connecting too? A wireless router? Can you connect your XBox via wire? Playing on LIve!, I prefer the performance or wired or the convience of wireless and ran a 100' Cat5e cable though my house. |

Alright, right now I am connecting directly to the xbox with an ethernet cable, could it possible work if I used a hub/router. Because this is what I did with my PC..... And I am at college and we only got one wireless router between our two side of a duplex, to save money, so I cant plug directly into it.

I have my 360 hooked up to my network via the wireless adapter that you buy for the 360. it has never given me a problem connecting to my extreme base station.
